Making the Main Things, the Main Things Pt 1
In my last post, I re-introduced the 11 Ministry Priorities that I sensed the Lord challenging me—and our wider Movement—to identify and pursue when I first stepped into the BB Queensland Presidency in early 2024. These priorities aren’t just strategic goals; they’re spiritual signposts, calling us to become more than leaders, organisers, or program planners. They call us to become worshippers—men and women whose lives are anchored in glorifying God, both in our personal walk and in our ministry with boys.
Over the following three posts, we begin unpacking the first set of these priorities grouped under the banner: MAKING THE MAIN THINGS, THE MAIN THINGS:
Priority #1 … A Movement of Worshippers
Priority #2 … Object Focused Ministry
Priority #3 … Respecting, Not Captured by the Past
As I reflect on these three, I’d place them in the category of “if I had to choose the most priority of the priorities…these would be them”. Each one is core to WHO we are as a Movement.
“In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him,
And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].”

At our core, we are a Christian, evangelical ministry. We exist to “introduce boys to Jesus.” That doesn’t happen through a resource, a syllabus, or “letting” the Chaplain come on a Company night to “handle the God stuff”. It doesn’t even happen through devotions or Church Parades. Our mission of advancing Christ’s Kingdom happens when Christian men and women live out their faith ALONGSIDE the boys and young men in their Company.
A Movement of Worshippers
We are called to be a Movement of Worshippers: people who live lives centred on glorifying God. Worship isn’t confined to singing; it is expressed through our obedience, our service, our relationships, and our pursuit of Christlikeness. Our goal isn’t just to run good programs – it’s to raise up boys who know, love, and follow Jesus.
This calling extends beyond our time with the boys. Every time we gather as leaders – whether in Company, Battalion, or State contexts – we are first and foremost worshippers. When we put the Lord first, He makes the way forward clear. No matter the translation you use, Proverbs 3:6 makes it pretty clear that when individuals and groups of people put the Lord first, he makes the way forward straight. Or, as the hymn writer puts it:
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.”
To put it simply, the Lord needs to be our first, ongoing, and last focus in ALL that we do.
