11 Ministry Priorities to Lead Us Forward … Action Focused Leadership pt1
Over my last three posts, we have been exploring the first set of three Ministry Priorities grouped under the banner – MAKING THE MAIN THINGS, THE MAIN THINGS:
- Priority #1 … A Movement of Worshippers – the Lord must remain our first, ongoing, and ultimate focus in everything we do
- Priority #2 … Object Focused Ministry – staying grounded in what truly matters gives us a filter for decision‑making and a compass for direction
- Priority #3 … Respecting, Not Captured by the Past – we are called to be courageous stewards of our legacy—not curators of a museum—moving forward with reverence and readiness to adapt, grow, and lead a new generation into a vibrant, Christ‑centred future
These priorities are not just philosophical ideas; they are deeply practical, spiritual, and essential if we are to remain faithful to our calling in this new season.
How We Lead
Now, we turn to the second group of Ministry Priorities, which focus on HOW we lead. These fall under the banner – ACTION FOCUSED LEADERSHIP:
- Priority #4 … A Connected Team
- Priority #5 … Excessively Accessible
- Priority #6 … Informed to Encourage Action
- Priority #7 … Consultative but Decisive
- Priority #8 … Strong Support Structures
These five ideas challenge us to think about the way we operate as leaders—not as a set of practical skills, but as the overarching foundations that sit underneath HOW we lead.

One of the greatest blessings I have as President is serving alongside a godly group of men and women on our BB Queensland Board and Staff. I’m not only grateful for the shared workload but for the diverse skills, perspectives, and experiences each member brings to the table.
If you were to observe our monthly Board Meeting, you’d notice two things: the broad variety of people around the table and the genuine rapport among those who serve together—celebrating differences while pursuing a common mission.
Across the wider BB Ministry in Queensland, I work closely with some, see others regularly at events, and connect with others occasionally. Regardless of frequency, I’m blessed to serve alongside people who are equally committed and equipped—and who I can call on in any situation.
Are you Action Focused?
Within your Company, Battalion, or Event team, how connected are you to those you serve alongside? Can they truly count you as part of their team?
To build a Connected Team, consider these key principles:
- We’re all in this together – God blesses us with others to serve alongside. Look around and remind yourself often that you’re not alone.
- Work hard, play hard – Give 100% to the task, but also make time to relax and have fun together with the same veracity as we work together with.
- We’re all more than what we see at BB events – Everyone has a story beyond the BB context. Take time to know it.
- We’re better together – In high‑pressure moments, it’s tempting to go solo. Resist that urge. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 reminds us we succeed when we move forward as a team.
- We’ve gotta laugh together – Even in stressful times, create moments to laugh. Connection grows when joy is shared.
You know the clichés… “there’s no I in team”; “Teamwork makes the dream work”; “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link”; “Many hands make light work”; “United we stand, divided we fall.” Cringe‑worthy or not, these sayings point to a deeper truth: we lead best when we lead as part of a connected team.
